CarrierLink Self-Assignment for Drivers

Your carrier might not have access to your phone number, making it difficult to ensure a load can track via CarrierLink. In this situation, you can simply assign themselves to a load using our self-assignment feature as long as the carrier can provide them with the Load Number and PIN for the load.

Note: This feature will only be available for those shippers that are liscensed for it.

Note: iPhone users must go into their settings to always share their location with CarrierLink, to ensure successful tracking (Settings > CarrierLink > Location > Always). Remember, CarrierLink only tracks you while you have an active load, and stops once that load is delivered.

Take a look at this video for further instruction.

Self-Assigning Loads:

1. You can access the self assignment feature from the multi-function ('plus') button in the CarrierLink app.

2. You must enter the shipment number and if a barcode is provided, the driver can use the barcode scanner option. Select the highlighted section shown below to open the barcode scanner. PIN is not required unless notified.

Note: The PIN is not always necessary to find a load, as it depends on how your dispatcher is configured in FourKites.

3. The barcode must be generated in a way that it contains a 4 digit PIN and the Load# separated by a "/". For example, '1234/BOL6545' where '1234' is the PIN and 'BOL6545' is the Load#. In the case of no PIN, the barcode can be generated as '/BOL6545' where 'BOL6545' is the Load#. In the case of no PIN, the barcode can be generated as 'BOL6545' where 'BOL6545' is the Load#, no "/" required.

When the phone reads the barcode, it automatically fills the Shipment Number and PIN columns. Click on 'Search Load' to go to the next step.

4. The search results will show loads that belong to shippers who have this feature enabled. It also does an exact match of the entered shipment number and the PIN number in order to provide the search results and show this to the driver. You can verify the load details and self-assign the load. Once you do this, this load will be displayed in 'Active' or 'Assigned' tab on CarrierLink app. You can now start tracking this load like any other load.

5. Additionally, you can unassign a self-assigned load. If you self-assign the wrong load, the Unassign option can be used to remove this load from the load list. This may also be useful in LTL scenarios in Europe, where the first driver can unassign this load and the next driver can take over.

LTL Scenario:

In order to facilitate the LTL scenario in Europe, it is possible for a second driver to enter the shipment and PIN number and still find a load that has already been self-assigned by the first driver. The second driver can choose to self-assign a load, in which case, this load will be unassigned for the first driver and will be removed from the first driver's load list.
